ICC Birmingham strengthens position in education sector with new contract
News | 24 Apr 2023ICC Birmingham has signed a multi-year deal with Birmingham City University to continue to bring graduation ceremonies to the venue, building on its growing strength in the education sector.
The ceremonies will welcome thousands of students to celebrate their achievements at both summer and winter celebrations over the next five years, with graduates using venue facilities to collect their caps and gowns, as well as have official photographs taken to record their special day.
The deal further cements ICC Birmingham’s growing presence in the education sector, working with a wide range of education associations, colleges and universities. In the last 12 months, the venue has welcomed 15,000 delegates across 14 educational events, while retaining multiple contracts for future years.
This includes a three-year extension with the Association of Colleges, which sees 1,200 delegates attend a November conference. The venue has held the event since 2001, which supports further education, sixth form, tertiary and specialist colleges in England.
As well as this, ICC Birmingham has worked with Association of School and College Leaders, Jisc, Independent Schools' Bursars Association, Inspiring Leadership, Newman University, Windsor Academy Trust, The Open University, University College Birmingham and NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union in the last calendar year.
The latter experienced fantastic success at the ICC in 2022, with the NASUWT Annual Conference scooping multiple prestigious industry awards including the ABPCO Excellence Award for Best Event and the Greengage Insights and 2023 Sustainability Award.
The ICC also has a new event in the calendar for the next two years, hosting the Confederation of School Trust's annual conference.
Jordan Whittington, Account Director for Associations at ICC Birmingham, said: “This deal further enhances our already strong education credentials, hosting a celebration for students at Birmingham City University.
“It’s always really exciting to see and celebrate the success of students that have been working so hard in our city and we’re determined to put on ceremonies that are testament to that hard work.
“The ICC is an ideal location for events of this kind, with our versatile spaces and accessibility at the heart of Birmingham, with a plethora of space and nearby hotels to make our visitors’ stay a comfortable one.”
Hannah Robinson, Academic Registrar at Birmingham City University, said: “Graduation is a special moment for all students, and we want to ensure that every student is able to celebrate in style as they mark the end of their studies with us. That means using some of Birmingham’s most iconic venues to host our celebrations.
“The ICC, together with the Symphony Hall, offer the city centre backdrop that our graduating students deserve – a place for families to come together, friends to celebrate and staff to look on with pride.
“We’re already looking forward to planning the next set of celebrations this summer.”
